Bike To Work Day 2014

West Chester BLUER and the Chester County Cycling Coalition are launching a Share The Road campaign this month, below are two events happening in our area. For more information on the Share The road campaign visit bike-to-work-daythe official website, www.wcbluer.org/ShareTheRoad.

Scheduled Events:

  • May 16, 7:30am – Bike To Work Day – Escort Mayor Comitta to work from the Mayor’s house (Brandywine Ave, north end of Everhart Park) to Borough Hall
  • May 16, 8:30am – the efforts of West Chester BLUER and the Transportation/Bike Friendly West Chester team are being recognized by PennFuture and the Sierra Club for their work to make bicycling a realistic alternative to driving in the West Chester area.

Creating an Excellent Corporate Culture

  • Time: 11:45 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Date: Wednesday, January 15, 2014
  • Location: West Chester University, Lawrence Building
  • Cost: $25 per person

Award-winning businesses will share essential steps on how to craft successful company cultures. Hear from small, medium and large companies with cultures that encourage employees to do their best work.

What I Am Learning About Leadership Series

  • Time: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Date: 2nd Tuesday of the month
  • Location: Pietro’s Prime, 125 W. Market St., West Chester
  • Cost: $55 per person

Executive Round Tables feature an expert and are limited to 12 guests. The format gives every attendee access to the expert and focused discussion on the topic during a gourmet food and wine pairing.  Attendees must have executive responsibilities at their place of business.

Early Education Fair & Sitter Speed Dating

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Where: Assumption Preschool and Kindergarden, 135 Fairfield Lane,Wayne
  • Why Go: Main Line Parent will showcase preschool and kindergarten programs, camps, and educational enrichment programs for children under 6. Meet other families and find a babysitter or nanny in a speed session at 2 p.m.  For more information, please visit their website.

  • Why Go: Same event as Saturday, only different location and different schools.  Main Line Parent will showcase preschool and kindergarten programs, camps, and educational enrichment programs for children under 6 in a family fun day in Wynnewood. Teens Speak

  • When: Sunday, Jan. 27 from 3 – 5 p.m.
  • Where: Lower Merion High School
  • Why Go: This event gives all our community an opportunity to see stress and success through the eyes of students.  Teens Speak is presented by the Youth Advisory Council for the Coalition for Youth of Lower Merion and Narberth.  The YAC is made up of students from the following schools:  Baldwin, Agnes Irwin, Haverford, Barrack Academy, Friends’ Central, Lower Merion High School, Harriton High School and Shipley.
  • Cost: Free

West Chester Bartender’s Ball

  • When: Sunday, Jan. 27 from 7 p.m. – Midnight
  • Where: Chester County Historical Society
  • Why Go: Enjoy a night of open bar, catered food, live music and more – all benefitting local charities.
  • Cost:$50

Owl Night

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. 
  • Where:  YMCA 1416 Berwyn Paoli Rd, Berwyn
  • Why Go: Families are invited to join us for a night of owls at Upper Main Line YMCA! Elmwood Park Zoo will present their live owl and raptor show in the gymnasium. Our staff naturalists will demonstrate owl pellet dissections and then lead a night owl prowl from our Nature Center throughout the YMCA’s Cassatt Preserve in search of some of our local owls. Dress for the outdoors and bring a flashlight! FREE event to the community.
  • Cost: Free

Special Kids Camp Expo

  • When: Saturday, Jan. 26 from 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Where: Valley Forge Educational Services 1777 N Valley Rd, Malvern
  • Why Go: Members of the community are invited to come learn about regional summer programs and camps that support youth who learn differently. Events Happening This Weekend

It’s Friday, congratulations on making it through another long week! If your looking for something to do this weekend below are some events to check out happening around the West Chester area.

YMCA Sunday

  • When: Sunday, Jan. 20 from Noon – 3 p.m.
  • Where: YMCA 605 Airport Rd, West Chester
  • Why Go: Bring the kids for an afternoon of fun at the West Chester Area Y! Swim, play games and explore all that the Y has to offer. Free and open to the community.
  • Cost: Free

WCFS Empty Bowl Supper

  • When: Friday, Jan. 18 from 6 – 8 p.m.
  • Where: West Chester Friends School
  • Why Go: The West Chester Friends School is hosting an Empty Bowl supper to benefit the West Chester Food Cupboard. Empty Bowl is a national effort to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity in communities. Participants receive a handmade glazed bowl, a simple supper, bowl filled with soup, and bread.
  • Cost: $10 per person, or $20 for families of two or more.

Furry Predators of the Night

  • When: Friday, Jan. 18 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: Brandywine Valley Association, 1760 Unionville-Wawaset Rd, West Chester
  • Why Go: Ever wonder what animals lurk at night? Join us for a howling good time as we investigate the nocturnal habits of foxes and coyotes! Touch real fur from fox and coyote; learn how to identify their tracks, scat and sounds! Bundle up because we will finish out our evening with a walk in hopes of spotting them with the help of a predator call! *Moderate walking.

Artisans Exchange Indoor Food and Farmers Market

  • When: Every Saturday until April 27 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Where: Golden Valley Farms 208 Carter Dr, West Chester
  • Why Go: This is the region’s first indoor market featuring organically produced foods made right on premise. Enjoy browsing through over 25 local food artisans and farmers, interactive tasting sessions, hands-on demonstrations, live music and more!

Kildare’s Present the 3rd Annual Running of the Turkeys

This Sunday, November 18th, Kildare’s irish Pub will be hosting the 3rd Annual Running of the Turkeys! This will be a 1 mile run over the streets of West Chester while carrying your frozen Turkey. The cost of the event is 1 frozen turkey. if you can’t bring a turkey with you, there will be a limited number on sale the day of the race at Kildare’s. Great prizes from area businesses will be handed out to the winners and also the runners carrying the heaviest turkey, the most turkeys carried, the most creative turkey carry and the best holiday outfits. Race day registration only, for more details visit http://www.runccrs.com.
