The Lincoln Room Closing in May

It saddens me to hear the news that The Lincoln Room, located in Downtown West Chester, will be closing its doors this May. Below is a message from there website, www.lincolnroomwestchester.com:

I am sadly announcing that The Lincoln Room is closing. Saturday, May 10, will be our final day for serving.

The past six years have been most remarkable. Designed as a tea room, we wanted to have a West Chester destination that would be fun and relaxing while reflecting the heritage of the Lincoln Building where the first biography of Abraham Lincoln was published. I think we created that experience. The business has continued to grow and bring new customers.

Over the years, The Lincoln Room included many special events. The Lincoln Room was the first to sponsor horse-drawn carriage rides. We created Fondue Fridays Nights, Lincoln Tea & Parlor Games, where everyone was a winner, Paws for Tea and Santa Causes, and a home for historic walking tours and ghost tours.

The Lincoln Room could not have existed without the incredibly generous support of so many people. These include Karen Simmons, Executive Director of the Chester County Community Foundation that owns the Lincoln Building, Richard May of West Chester LLC, Steve Pinkston who designed the remarkable Lincoln Room logo, Jo Anne Durako of County Lines Magazine, Sharyn Flaherty and Jill Johnson at the Chester County Night School, the West Chester BID, and The Lincoln Room’s loyal and hard-working staff.

Of course, we are so very grateful for the many customers who have entered our doors over the years, many who have become friends. The Lincoln Room has been a place where we have shared traditions and special events of so many people. We’ve hosted special birthday parties, wedding showers and baby showers. We’ve seen couples meet in the tea room, marry and eventually introduce their children to us. Some visitors we see nearly every day and others less often–everyone is special to us.

As I am leaving to start a new path, the future of The Lincoln Room remains uncertain. It could be taken over by a new owner or perhaps have a new incarnation as something else. I will continue to be an active part of downtown West Chester and will always cherish the memories of The Lincoln Room.

Sincerely,
Susan Johnstone
