Comic Opera at WCU

West Chester University School of Music presents Albert Herring, a comic opera in three acts by Benjamin Britten, England’s preeminent 20th-century composer. Composed in the winter of 1946, this light-hearted chamber opera is set in the imaginary East Suffolk town of Loxford. It contains some of Britten’s wittiest musical invention and his gifts for parody and caricature, already evident in Peter Grimes, are given full reign. Performances at 7:30pm at The Main Stage Theatre, E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 East Rosedale Ave. Call 610-436-2266 for tickets and details.

  • Masters of Motown at WCU | Saturday, November 9, 2013: WCU Live! presents the entire Motor City experience with Masters of Motown, one of the great experiences in musical history. The 10-member cast includes three female vocalists and three male vocalists supported by a live back-up band. Together they reproduce an authentic style and sound that made Motown what it is. Show begins at 7:30pm with reserved seating at Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building.

Brandenburg 5 & Co at WCU

This Friday, October 4, 2013, WCU Live! presents the Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players as they perform Bach’s extravagant fifth Brandenburg Concerto programmed alongside music by Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Telemann and Couperin. There will also be a fresh take on Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D. Barclay Friends’ Festival of Gardens | September 7, 2013

The annual Barclay Friends’ Festival of Gardens is a West Chester garden tour held each September that features the private gardens of the residents of West Chester Borough.  During the tour, local artists can be found working in many of the gardens, and following the tour there is a plant sale at Barclay Friends.  The Festival of Gardens benefits the horticultural programming at Barclay Friends and is supported by members of the West Chester community who help plan and host the annual event in different sections of the borough each year.

This year’s 9th Annual Festival of Gardens Tour will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The event will feature 12+ private gardens in the Southwest area of the borough of West Chester.
