Runners and walkers are invited to participate in Sea You at the Beach, a 5K run, 2.5K walk and kids’ fun run set for Nov. 19 downtown. Proceeds from the event will benefit For Pete’s Sake Cancer and Respite Foundation and the Christine Federico Ambrose Children’s Education Fund. With more than 700 participants already signed up, the event will celebrate the memory of Christine Ambrose, who is survived by her husband, Larry, and their eight children. The Christine Federico Ambrose Children’s Education Fund was established by friends and family of Christine and Larry Ambrose in May 2011 after her death. The fund aims to give their children “the tools to build mountains of memories and to carry the spirit of their mother throughout their lives.”

For Pete’s Sake was established by Marci Bossow Schankweiler in 1999 in memory of her husband, Peter R. Bossow Jr., whose 15-month battle with cancer ended with his death Sept. 1, 1999. Since its inception, the organization has served more than 3,900 people. The event is hosted by the St. Joseph Downingtown CYO cross country and track teams with hopes of building an ongoing stream of support for the children of Christine and Larry Ambrose. Additionally, Larry Ambrose will donate a portion of proceeds to For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation. For Pete’s Sake enables adult cancer patients and their loved ones to take a break from cancer by providing them with an all-expense paid respite vacation to various locations along the East Coast and the Caribbean.

The race starts at the corner of Church and Market streets in West Chester. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Barnaby’s West Chester on 15 S. High St. Registration is $25 and can be made online atwww.runccrs.com or by check payable to Chris Ambrose Memorial Sea You at the Beach 5K.  For more information visit www.takeabreakfromcancer.org.
